Documenting a wedding day that weaves through different iconic spaces across the tri-state area requires a true documentary approach to storytelling. This past season, I had the incredible opportunity to step in as a creative collaborator to capture a spectacular wedding celebration that began with a classic, emotional church ceremony in Queens, New York, before moving into New Jersey for portraits and reception events. Serving as a second lens alongside a phenomenal team allowed me to look past the standard angles and focus entirely on capturing clean, artful details and natural romance across multiple gorgeous landscapes.
The layout transitions of this day provided a masterclass in adapting to light and architecture. For our portrait block, we utilized the stunning, structured stone pathways and historic architecture of the New Jersey Botanical Garden in Ringwood. I was tasked with getting details of the groom before returning to capture the couple portraits with the bride and groom against the estate at the gardens. Moving into the grand reception spaces at Il Villaggio in Carlstadt, New Jersey, the creative execution shifted heavily toward technical lighting versatility. Preserving the warm, grand ambience of the ballroom layouts while freezing high-energy guest candids on the dance floor required quick adjustments to our off-camera lighting configurations, giving the final image gallery an upscale, timeless editorial feel. I absolutely love how the portrait session and the reception turned out, especially the first dance!
One of my absolute favorite layers of this tri-state celebration was documenting the quiet, unscripted in-between moments; the delicate details of the wardrobe prep, the quiet whispers and smiles during the service, and the intricate table designs at the venue.
